Jean-Michel Gires, CEO, NextTier Energy Solutions 

Jean-Michel has had a distinguished 30 year career in energy and sustainable development. He has held top responsibilities in Europe, North and South America, working in nuclear, renewables and oil and gas. Some of his most notable roles have included Venture Partner at Chrysalix EVC, President & CEO, Total E&P Canada and President, Total Venezuela.

Jean-Michel has been instrumental in establishing best practices in the areas of advanced research & development, project management, environmental, responsibility, stakeholder relations and community capacity building. 

He will speak to the "chicken or egg" syndrome that occurs when evaluating the need for technologies and how producers, EPCMs and technology innovators can better work together to develop solid solutions that drive quick and notable results.

Jean previous experience includes President, Total E&P Canada


Mark Brown, Vice President & General Manager, Fluor Canada 

Mark started with Fluor as a construction engineer at the Irving Oil Refinery in New Brunswick in 1999. Over the course of his tenure with Fluor, Mark has served in various leadership roles in project management, sales, construction, fabrication and other corporate portfolios. His previous assignments in Canada, the United States and Europe have fostered a global mindset that he brings with him to the Canadian operation.

Most recently, Mark served as the fabrication director on the Lake Charles Methonal (LCM) Project, supporting the development of the construction and fabrication driven strategy for this multi-billion-dollar, lump sum in Louisiana.


Terry Ross, MBA, PhD, Research Partnerships Specialist, Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary

Over the past 16 years Terry has worked in the field of innovation in roles relating to research collaboration, business development, policy development and social science research. He is currently working in the Schulich School of Engineering and is passionate about the potential for new digital technologies to transform Alberta's industries. He received his MBA and PhD from the University of Calgary in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. 

Terry will speak to some of the interesting projects and opportunities involving the University of Calgary.


Bemal Mehta, Sr. Vice President, Energy Intelligence, JWN Energy

Bemal leads the group's efforts in areas of business intelligence and strategic insight for the energy industry. He brings a breadth of experience in the areas of business strategy and operational excellence. Bemal is a professional engineer with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA from Queen's University.
