On Oct. 4, 2017, JWN Energy hosted Achieving Better Technology Validation & Adoption Success,
an Inspired Conversation workshop sponsored by Kinetica Ventures, Saskatchewan Research
Council (SRC), Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC) and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

The objective of this event was to bring stakeholders together to identify the barriers and advance the solutions to improve technology validation and adoption. Facilitated discussion centred on challenges and opportunities for faster tech adoption to speed innovation and reduce disruption risk. The workshop focused on:

  1. What works AND what hinders us in our current approach to technology validation, from the perspective of achieving faster technology adoption?

  2.  Is there value in adopting a common approach across the ecosystem and wider stakeholders (Industry, Funders, Technology providers) to support technology validation and adoption (such as the VMP discussed in the pre-read materials), and if so, how could this be implemented across the ecosystem?

  3. How could the “innovation ecosystem” more effectively support technology validation and adoption from a “one team – common objectives” approach (e.g., use of social contracts, more clear targeted outcomes)?

  4. How do we ensure that the ecosystem is aligned with common validation and adoption goals, what common processes and metrics can we use to more effectively ensure alignment of processes and objectives?
