John Brogly
Director, Water EPA
Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance

With almost 40 years of experience in energy and petrochemicals, John joined Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) after more than eight years as engineering manager, bitumen production at horizon oil sands for Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). John also worked as part of an industry team participating in the formation of COSIA. Prior to joining CNRL, John worked for 25 years with Dow Canada working in six different production facilities. He participated on the Construction Owners Association of Alberta (COAA) board of directors from 1998 - 2012, chaired the COAA's best practices committee and is a past president. John is currently COSIA’s water director and past, acting chief executive. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in chemical engineering from McMaster University.

Glen McCrimmon

Husky Energy

Appointed Husky’s chief of innovation in 2018, Glen oversees the innovation gateway, which builds on the expertise of technical chiefs and out-of-the-box thinkers from across the company, providing a coordinated approach that fosters innovation. Glen was chief geologist from 2016-2018 and started with Husky in 2013 as manager of frontier exploration. He began his career as a geoscientist with Imperial Oil. Over his career Glen has held multi-year assignments based in Houston, Texas, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Calgary. Glen received a BSc in Geology from the University of Regina and an MSc in Earth Sciences from the University of Ottawa.

Shelia Innes
General Manager, Indigenous and Community Relations

Over the past 25 years Sheila has held a number of environment, health & safety and sustainability positions in the manufacturing and energy sectors. Throughout her career, Sheila has had roles ranging from direct operational support, to managing strategic issues and embedding sustainability practice and thinking deep into organizations. Sheila is currently the general manager of indigenous and community relations at Suncor. She is also a board member at Learning for a Sustainable Future and interacts regularly with organizations, including Reconciliation Canada and the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and Indigenous Works. As an accountant, Sheila holds her CPA and CMA designations, and has supplemented her management background with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Design.


Mark Brown

Mark began his career with Fluor Canada as a construction engineer in 1999 at the Irving Oil Refinery in New Brunswick. This role, combined with other construction roles across Canada, helped develop his passion for engineering. Over the course of his tenure with the company, Mark has served in various leadership roles in project management, business development, construction, fabrication and other corporate portfolios. His previous assignments in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, have fostered a global mindset that he brings with him as general manager and vice president of the Canadian operation.

Deborah Jaremko is oilsands editor with the Daily Oil Bulletin (DOB) and editor of She was the editor of the Oilsands Review magazine from its founding in 2006 to its close in 2017. Deborah joined JWN in 2003 following graduation from Mount Royal College with a Bachelor of Applied Communications in Journalism.
